“I’m staying in Shinsekai — can I catch a Yoshimoto comedy show nearby?” We get asked this a lot. Short answer: not inside Shinsekai itself. Yoshimoto’s main theaters are in Namba, a short ride away. Here’s the honest distance, and how to actually get there.

Namba Grand Kagetsu (NGK) — home base of Yoshimoto Shinkigeki
Yoshimoto Shinkigeki, the troupe’s signature slapstick comedy, performs regularly at Namba Grand Kagetsu (NGK), located at 11-6 Nanba Sennichimae, Chuo-ku, Osaka. It’s about a 3-5 minute walk from Namba Station, depending on which exit/line you use (source: japannook.com, gltjp.com). The venue runs a variety-show format, mixing manzai, comedy sketches, and the signature Shinkigeki stage comedy.
Based on the English-language guide information we could find, showtimes are roughly: weekdays at 11:00am and 2:30pm, weekends/holidays at 10:00am, 1:30pm, and 5:00pm, with each show running about 2-2.5 hours. The lineup changes monthly, and special schedules apply during holiday seasons — always check the official site for current times.
Rough pricing we found: ¥4,800 for 1st-floor seats, ¥4,300 for 2nd floor (as of 2025). An older source listed ¥5,000/¥4,500, with holiday surcharges on top — so treat these as ballpark figures and confirm before booking. Tickets go through the official site (Japanese only) or by phone; same-day walk-up tickets are available at the box office if the show isn’t sold out. English subtitles are offered only occasionally, not as a guaranteed feature — if that matters to you, contact the theater ahead of time. Even without subtitles, Shinkigeki’s broad physical comedy is fairly easy to follow.
Yoshimoto Manzai Gekijo — a smaller, manzai-focused stage
A short walk from NGK, on the 5th floor of the YES Namba building at 12-7 Nanba Sennichimae, Chuo-ku, is Yoshimoto Manzai Gekijo. It’s about a 3-minute walk from Namba Station (source: osaka-info.jp). Where NGK is a broad variety show including Shinkigeki, this venue is a smaller, more intimate theater focused on manzai, comedy sketches, and solo stand-up acts.
Ticket prices start around ¥1,000, noticeably cheaper than NGK (source: osaka-info.jp English page). Same-day tickets are often available — check announcements via the theater’s official social media. Tickets can be bought online, at convenience stores, or at the box office; a free FANY ID account registration may be required. We couldn’t find information confirming English subtitles or English-language support for performances here.
How to actually get there from Shinsekai
To be upfront: we couldn’t find an official source giving an exact walking or transit time from Shinsekai directly to either theater. Based on individual route segments we could verify, here’s a realistic path:
- Osaka Metro Midosuji Line, Dobutsuen-mae Station to Namba Station: 1 stop, about 5 minutes
- Alternatively, Sakaisuji Line from Ebisucho Station to Nippombashi: about 4 minutes, then a short walk to Dotonbori
Add the 3-5 minute walk from Namba Station to NGK or the Manzai Gekijo, and the realistic total from Shinsekai is somewhere around 15-20 minutes door to door — this is our estimate stacking verified segments together, not a single official figure, so double-check with a transit app before you go. Think of it less as “comedy in Shinsekai” and more as “Shinsekai as your base, with Namba a quick hop away.”
Shinsekai does have its own smaller venues — a rakugo (traditional storytelling) hall called Dorakutei and a variety theater called Asahi-za — but we couldn’t confirm any Yoshimoto-affiliated theater actually located inside Shinsekai itself.
Stay in Shinsekai, make the show a short detour
Namba is only about 10-15 minutes away by train, but after a late show, or if you’d rather keep your bags somewhere relaxed, basing yourself in Shinsekai cuts down on the hassle — and lets you pair the show with a day of sightseeing around Tsutenkaku.
